I am currently writing a paper for class (yes, I know its 10:30 pm), and I'm actually motivated and excited to write this paper. I'm 95% confident that the rest of the class hates the assignment, but I'm getting really into it (this probably also means that I am doing something wrong and will do poorly on it, but whatev, I'm having fun). Maybe because I have a little bit of background in it, either way, for the first time ever of homework distractions, I'm not distracting myself. Of course, yes, this is a distraction...
I just had to say how awesome Microsoft '07 is. It makes your own bibliography! You just have to answer a few questions about the source and it makes it for you. AMAZING. This leads me to my point that I am a Mac and a PC. I don't really like typing papers on my mac. Me and the keyboard have never really meshed well and I'm just plain faster on a PC for paper writing. But when it comes to photos, videos and music, I prefer the mac. Thus leading me to the conclusion that while I'm in school I have to have both machines. And I don't care how, but I need to have Microsoft '07 to write my masters thesis. Push button citation inserts and this "manage source" feature... best. thing. ever.
Fastest distraction ever. Back to my paper.

You need to wear pants to Olive Garden
It's turning into one of those weeks where we don't have groceries. I got home from work and Adam and I had one of those conversations of, "where should we eat". Take out, delivery, go out?
Adam decided he wanted Olive Garden. I was changing into different pants when Adam walked into the bedroom and said:
"Heather, you need to wear pants to the Olive Garden"
He said it so seriously that it seemed as if he thought I might actually not wear pants. I know it's the Olive Garden, but I do realize they still require pants.

Testing 1, 2, 3
For the last week I have been consumed with wedding photos. Where should I print them, should I make customized books for family members? I have discovered that each photo site will give 20-50 free photos upon sign up. A think of this as a wonderful rouse to get me to try all of them. Free photo printing here I come! I hate the uploading process though. I put all of my pictures in iphoto, so getting them out to these photo sites isn't the most ideal. As I write this, I am uploading photos to snapfish to get my 20 free photos and 50 for a penny each, and to shutterfly which has a iphoto plugin is going to give me 50 free photos. The question will be which takes less time to upload, because both prices are comparable. Somethings that should streamline my life and make things easier do not seem to be helping. Argh. The bad thing, I may have to leave these until morning.
On to the other topic on my mind... school. I'm getting into the thick of things, we're roughly half way through the semester. Both of my classes will be done the first or second week in December, it feels nice to be so close to being done, but also stressful. I really can't wait to be done. And yes, this will probably come up in every post until I graduate. Mi dispiace, mi dispiace.
Good news- My sister is coming back to Mpls to work for a month. While I know she probably would prefer to be in NYC, I'm happy to get some time to hang out with her. She will be staying with me Tue and Wed. Since she moved I think I talk to her more now. Before we just never made the time, or we never set aside the time to actually call or talk to each other. I know I won't get to see her a lot while she is here, but since Heidi moved, this will be the 2nd time she has stayed with me, ever. Granted, when she lived here, she was only lives 4 miles away, so there really wasn't a reason for her to have to stay over at my house. I'm just happy to to get to see my sister and get to spend some time with her.
I've been toying with the idea of volunteering for a race to get the t-shirt, is that lame? It's not that I have anything against running the 5k, I've just done a lot of them this fall and don't want to pay for it and the race has good long sleeve technical t-shirts. Sadly, the only thing stopping me is the fact that I'm going to a Halloween party the night before and am worried that I may not be in the proper state of mind to volunteer the next morning. On the flip side the fact that I would have somewhere to be might keep me in line and I won't drink too much. We'll see. It's sad that I don't want to volunteer because I'm intending on being hungover.
Okay, I'm tired and hopped up on allergy meds. Time for sleep.

If someone would have said...
"Don't waste your time going to grad school, you'll be miserable for two years"
I wouldn't have listened. I would have said, nah, I can do it. It can't be that bad, right?
It's really not the worst thing ever, I'm just starting to get really sick of being busy all the time, or at least thinking about all the things I should be doing when I'm trying to relax. I swear that I don't really get the chance to relax much because when I try, I feel guilty I'm not doing something else and subsequently get stressed out. And then I blog.
Hearing from others in the grad program that I'm in, it sounds like we're all sort of going through the same thing. We want to be done. I had a friend in the program last year, I thought he was just whiny about it all, now I just realize that it's the second year of the program. The first year was bearable, it's new people you have a tolerance for and the 'fun' of being back in school allows you to ride that feeling out for most of the year. Now, the countdown begins. Last year I was counting down to my wedding, this year it is graduation. Friday May, 8th 1pm (213 days). I am defending my thesis on June 17th at 11:30am (253 days). These are the dates that I am counting down to. These dates symbolize when I get my life back. Or at least when my head will be less mush (unless all of my celebratory drinking has some lasting effects). I hate the fact that I want the next 9 months to just fly by, because I sort of feel like I am just wasting my life away waiting for the unpleasant things to go by and failing to enjoy everything else that is going on around me. Yes, this is my fault for jam packing so many things into so few years, but I do it knowing life will be more enjoyable when I am done. Going to school now means I will never have to deal with kids and school and work. I know that when I finish school that Adam and I will be able to have a couple years to just relax and do the things that we want to do. I know he is affected by school as much as I am because me being busy means that I also don't get to see him 3+ nights a week.
I do know that if I didn't got back to school now, I would think about it and would eventually go back. I think that's just who I am. I push myself to do things until I can't push any further. Often times I get too stressed out to deal with it, but I like juggling things and get bored easily. I'm already planning what to do with my free time this summer... I will actually be able to focus and train for a long race. I was on course to run Grandma's 1/2 marathon spring 07 but hurt my knee and knew that I wouldn't be able to continue "long" runs in order to properly train. So, summer '09 will just have to wait for my 1/2 marathon debut. Richfield Urban Wildland, I'm looking at you.
