How long will the blogging revolution last?

As two co-workers have stated this week, blogging is the new Facebook. This statement has contributed to my morning of distraction as I weed through all of my co-workers blogs that I didn't know existed. To my defense, the reason for my ignorance, is because most of them emerged this month. This brings about my question: Is starting a blog just another New Year's Resolution?

How long will this blogging phenom last? Is it the opposite of a gym membership, frequent posts in winter but scarily scarce in spring and summer? Does it depend on schedules and ultimately how much time do you have to put toward contributing and maintaining a blog? All of these questions cause me to wonder what the hell I'm doing with this blog and how I even came to have a blog in the first place.

My first encounter was in London discovering that Erin was keeping an online journal for her friends and family to read while she was abroad. This caused a rash of fellow Simmies to create blogs or websites (or divulge that they had one) and a website to tell us what all the blogs/sites were. For us, 2003 was the year of the blog. Many of the blogs that started have been recreated and emerged under a new heading or simply just faded away to nothing. I was able to locate this gem of a photo, of one of our many Irish car bomb experiences. Ahh, the memories.
I started this blog to keep friends current on what was happening in my life. Mainly, I used it to rant about school, work, life's general frustrations. I've blended some work notes in, but it is coming to a point where I need to separate my blogs. My New Year's Blogging Resolution is to start a new blog, for ad related fun/miscellaneous awesomeness and attempt to keep this as a personal blog.

We'll see what happens and if it is physically possible for me to add another blog, or just anything, to my life, but I'm going to at least try. After all, everyone else I know started a blog in January 2008.

No where to be found

How is it that I am trying to find an episode of Law & Order, yet can't? Every time I turn on the TV, there is some version, why not now?! To be fair, I do not recall the last time I was watching live TV at 9:30. Let alone watching TV in bed. I am trying to wind down and get a good night's rest as I gear up for my third week of running at 6am. I'm half shocked that I've made it 2 weeks already and am getting in a good routine for working out almost everyday. Granted with my luck, I will wind up getting sick or injured and it will throw my whole schedule off. Hopefully not, but it is what has happened in the past. For the first time ever, I ran for 30 minutes with out walking. Not that I was running considerably fast, but the fact that I could run 30 minutes and not feel like dieing is pretty remarkable. It is amazing what consistency does for endurance.

This weekend, I was one of the many women that went to see "27 dresses." It was a cute movie, I forgot how cute James Marsden is. He hasn't been in a romantic comedy for awhile. I remember the first time I saw him, he was in a TV show called "Second Noah." The friends I was with thought I was crazy as I tried to recall what the TV show was about. I got the gist of lots of animals and kids- check out IMDB for more information if you're so inclined. It is really hard to describe something when you can barely remember the details.

One of my friends dropped the bomb that Brad Renfro died last week. I had a serious crush on him when I was in middle school. I saw all of his movies when I was younger, I even convinced my parents to see 'Sleepers' just because Brad Renfro was is it. It's so sad that someone the same age as me can die from self inflicting harm. From what I've read, yes I've read up on this, it doesn't sound like he had been happy lately. He had some run ins with the law and drugs, but it's still hard to see someone die so young. In the near future I will be watching all the Brad Renfro movies that I own to pay tribute.

I start school again tomorrow. I'm not really looking forward to it. I'm really glad I'm going back now because I don't think I would be able to handle it if I waited to go in a few years. It is also good that I am in such a strict program. They tell you what classes to take and you have to finish in 2 years. That alone makes it easy to get through it. I know I'm only one semester over at this point, but in a few months, I will only be 5 classes away from graduating. That is my motivation. Adam has started talking about grad school as well. One of my fears is that as soon as I get done, Adam will go back. It wouldn't be the end of the world, just a timing issue. I barely see him now with work and school, so I hope we have some time in between when I finish and he goes back. I think I just worry too much...

Finally, I found Law & Order: SVU. My favorite.

Wednesday- Today.

For some reason, all day yesterday I thought it was Wednesday when in fact, it was still Tuesday. I came into work today and was about to rip off "yesterday" on my daily calendar only to discover I ripped two days off and was proudly displaying Wednesday on Tuesday. At least I have some sort of reason for my madness.

But now I keep thinking today is Thursday...

Non New Years Resolutions.

One week later and people have already dropped their fitness goals. My own presence at the gym has been known to be sporadic due to my hectic schedule, but I do my best. I went last Wednesday to a spinning class and couldn't believe how many people where at the gym. Every treadmill taken, classes completely full, it was typical January 2nd. In only a week, I've already started to notice the drop off of people. Personally, I do not think I have made a new year's resolution for a few years, when I did they are always about: be healthier, workout more, etc. What's the point in writing it or saying when I'm pretty much constantly thinking it anyway? I suppose this year I have a different goal- Look good in my wedding dress (and a swimsuit). I have 5 months to look the best I possibly can and it's completely attainable. I want to look good and feel good about myself/figure. I am not committing to a weight loss, but committing to feeling good. That will also most likely include- not over indulging in alcohol, something I have been known to do on more than one occasion....

One thing I have noticed after several years of being in a committed relationship, it's very difficult to focus on yourself and you pick up all the bad habits of your partner. Adam eats healthier because of me and I eat worse because of him. I can't blame him completely, I love food. I love to make it and eat it, so I contribute to this downfall as well, however he makes it very difficult to turn away a pizza when I should probably have a salad, or at least a vegetable. I love stir fry and he dislikes 90% of vegetables. Needless to say, unless I want to start creating two meals every time I cook something, someone has to cave and it's usually me!

I can't seem to focus on myself without alienating Adam. If I continue the schedule I am currently adapting, I will be happy and he will not. My grad school classes start up in 2 weeks, which will take up my Tues and Thurs nights again. I have bowling on Monday, so there's 3 days out of the week that I am busy after work. My best option is to go to the gym in the morning, Mon, Tues, & Thurs. Try to go Wed post work, leaving me with Friday being the only weekday with out something scheduled. I don't mind being busy in general, but that leaves me no time to see Adam. Me being proactive about my health will only cause him to be frustrated at me for choosing the gym over him. In reality I am choosing a "healthy" me over a slobbish me. Of course he wouldn't see it that way.

I just don't understand why it has to be one or the other. If I find balancing my time this difficult, I can't imagine what it will be like when I have kids. I think my best bet is for Adam to come to the gym with me. I highly doubt this will take place, but it would be the best of all worlds for me. I just hope I can keep this schedule up during school. In college, I used to have cheerleading practice at 6am, classes all day then work till 10. This schedule has me home by 9. I did it then, hopefully I can do it now.

Frustration.

I am sitting at work as two co-workers try to work out a problem with a client. They are looking at documents that I helped create and discussing them. This is all fine, except that they are trying to work through some details, answers that I have, but they are not asking me. I am also waiting for information from them, but they are not sharing it with me. I have not been speaking with the client, so I can't accurately asses when the information will come in. They however have been in contact and are not sharing. The only reason I know anything is because I sit across the aisle from them and can HEAR them! I've tried to be understanding of the situation, but now I'm just frustrated. Argh. What a way to start out the day...
