Is it really worth it?

So I finally called Expedia to see about canceling our Vegas trip. As I was on hold to talk to someone, I saw that our flights were non refundable. If we canceled, we would each be given a $300 voucher for future use. But when we go to use the voucher, we will each be charged $150, there fore without trying we're out $300. And we don't actually get any of the money back for the flight- it's just saved for a later trip. So, if we canceled our trip we would get back 1/4 of what we paid. When Adam and I were talking about this yesterday I asked him, "what if we only get back 1/2 the money?" and he said he would still want to cancel. Of course my comment was that we shouldn't just throw away $400 (especially since we already paid for it!). He's worried about the money that we would spend there. I think we could do Vegas on a budget/cheap. I actually think it would be a fun challenge to see how little we could spend while we're there. There are cheap restaurants in Vegas, and you don't have to spend tons on a meal, and there are tons of free attractions and stuff there. We were originally going to splurge and see a cirque show, but we don't have to do that. I guess it just doesn't seem worth it to cancel something when you don't actually get your money back. AND it's not that we need the money back. We want the money back. Or Adam wants the money back. I just don't want to throw it away. It's like the commercial (if I could find it I would link it) with a guy running out of his house with a bag of money and throws it into the garbage truck. That's how I feel right now.

Adam and I clearly have different opinions on this, I'm just not sure if we'll be able to get on the same page. I may have to figure out how much money we spend in Minneapolis on a weekend and say, that we can spend the same amount in another city. I may end up having to research all of the free things to do in Vegas over the next week just to make my point.

I should be writing my paper...
