Day 3: Battledore and Shuttlecock.

The rubber balls plummeted toward the ground, bouncing just out of reach of the receiver. They rolled down the hill through the Flowering Currant, sucking up the pollen as they spun. As their trajectory slowed, they rolled into the chicken coop. The feathers stuck to the pollen soaked rubber, creating a circular tail at the end of each ball. The children picked up the new creations and hit them with the battledores they carried down the hill with them. They noticed how the new ball flew differently than it did before and how it resembled a chicken.

Thus, the game of Battledore and Shuttlecock was born, or Badminton as we call it now.
